Chip-Level Motherboard Repair in Ahmedabad — What Actually Happens
Inside a real chip-level repair job — BGA reballing, trace repair, IC replacement.
'Chip-level repair' gets thrown around a lot. Here's what actually happens inside our Vasna lab when a motherboard comes in dead.
Step 1. Visual inspection under microscope for burn marks, missing SMD components, corroded pads.
Step 2. Schematic-based diagnosis using boardview software (WinRAR-style schematic reading) to locate the failing rail.
Step 3. Component replacement — swap the failed IC, capacitor or MOSFET with a genuine part. Common culprits: PMIC on 2019+ Dell XPS, PCH on ThinkPads, GPU VRMs on gaming laptops.
Step 4. BGA reballing for CPU/GPU chip failures — we use a professional infrared rework station, not a hot-air gun. Success rate around 70% on modern boards.
Step 5. 72-hour burn-in and thermal test before returning the laptop.
Cost. Component-level repairs start at ₹2,499 and cap at ₹15,000 — vs the ₹40,000+ Apple or OEM board-swap quote.
